I got the pleasure of meeting Dodger in person at a leather shop in my home state just a few weeks ago.
It completely started with Indiana Jones. From the first time I saw those movies i couldn't take my eyes off the guys in suits. Mostly Harrison Ford but even the villains were always well dressed. That's when I realized I spent a lot of time fascinated by their wardrobe. It made them more appealing, even if I didn't know the extent of it at the time. Also being an army brat we didn't have American television, except what we could rent at the video store, so there was a lot of BBC for us, and it seemed most of the shows I watched always had at least one dapper guy who was regularly in a 3 piece. The other side of it was my love of sci-fi fantasy and monster movies. Between the vampires and the period of the films, you got all kinds of formal wear from Victorian England to more wild west style suits, but always they managed to look amazing. Around puberty is when I started to realize that the suited authority figure did a lot for me, be it BLUF leathers or the strict businessman boss, these ideas made me a very happy pup. Also anything with a butler and I was immediately able to swap places with that character in my head, whether film or literature. As I've gotten older it's only grown, and now seeing a suited professor or a well dressed gentleman can almost put me in sub space.
